You are invited to participate in the ROP Hot Topics 2018 after the AAO meeting In Chicago.

Meeting Purpose: Best Outcomes for Infants with ROP Now and Future 

Special Focus: Decision Making with Limited Data

Extended Description: We are all on the same journey to improve the lives of our patients, however, limited data forces us to navigate through difficult, confused clinical challenges at many levels. This meeting is focused at high level discussion. The workshop is meant to allow an exploration of key aspects of ROP that inform clinical management of ROP. The format is open; we hope to accept more than 90% of submissions as paper presentation and posters with adequate time for in-depth and constructive discussion.

The meeting is scheduled for:
Tuesday evening October 30, 2018, and all day October 31 and Nov 1.

Scientific Sessions will include:

  • Evaluation of Evidence and Data
  • Neurodevelopment in Neonates
  • Interpretation of Animal Model Studies
  • Treatment of Acute ROP
  • Telemedicine
  • Imaging and Data Processing
  • Late ROP/Recurrence
  • Free papers that will be organized by clusters

A reception/poster session Tuesday evening will be followed by a casual photo-conference during which participants will be invited to present and discuss interesting, difficult and unusual cases.

Abstract deadline is September 15, 2018
All participants are invited to submit an abstract or case. In order to maintain the purpose of the workshop abstracts will be selected for oral presentation, poster format, short cases, and brief paper sessions.

The Study Design should explicitly state the level of evidence presented, eg prospective/retrospective/randomized etc.
The Methods section should contain a description of setting, intervention, and main outcome measures, where applicable.
The Conclusion should include the clinical relevance.

Case Presentation Abstracts: Free-form abstracts of 150 words or less.

Pediatric Retina Center

In addition to providing comprehensive retinal care in adults, our practice prides itself in the care of retinal diseases in children.

Drs. Michael Shapiro, Michael Blair, John Galasso and Dr. Jose Garcia-Gonzalez have extensive experience treating children with vitreoretinal diseases, both medically and surgically, and care for children and infants referred from much of the Midwest. Complex surgeries are performed by two or more vitreoretinal co-surgeons working together with an experienced team of anesthesiologists and nurses at Advocate Children's Hospital at Lutheran General, but some simpler procedures are performed at Lurie Children's Hospital, University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, and University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital.

Ocular Tumor Center

In addition to offering plaque brachytherapy for the treatment of intraocular melanoma, Retina Consultants is pleased to be part of a coordinated multi-center, multi-disciplinary effort to treat patients with certain types of intraocular tumors with proton beam radiation.

In coordination with ProCure, we are able to offer proton beam radiation therapy for the treatment of intraocular tumors, including melanoma. Proton beam radiation therapy for intraocular tumors is currently available in a few select cities in the United States. We are pleased to be able to offer this new treatment modality for our patients.

Hereditary Retinal Disease

A primary focus at Retina Consultants is the diagnosis and management of hereditary retinal diseases like retinitis pigmentosa in adults and children. We have state-of-the-art technology which can assist in determining an accurate diagnosis and in guiding treatment. Patients on Plaquenil

Patients currently being treated with Plaquenil for certain types of autoimmune disorders are at risk for the development of permanent damage to the retina which may cause loss of vision. Retina Consultants has diagnostic technology which may be able to detect disease in the earliest stages, possibly before permanent vision loss. These diagnostic modalities including spectral domain optical coherence tomography and multifocal electroretinogram which are available at Retina Consultants.

For your visit, please bring copies of your insurance card, physician referrals, and lists of medications. If you are a new patient you will be required to complete a new patient form.

Our physicians are on call 24 hours a day to assist our patients and referring physicians with any emergencies.
